The Silver Robins
The Silver Robins are a group of Robinwood West senior citizens that meet once a month to get the latest news of the group and the community, enjoy each others company, share a bit of refreshment, and plan a monthly activity. The group has been around for some time and is quite open to new “members”. In the past seven years we have visited such places as Creve Coeur Airport Historical Museum, St. Louis Public Library, Route 66 State Park, and Wicks Organ Factory, Highland IL. Name an attraction, no matter how obscure and we have either visited it our plan to visit it in the next year. This is one group in Robinwood West that never rests.
Here is a copy of the most recent Round Robin article from the Silver Robins:
Sept 2007
No swimming! Our August meeting on the 13th was the one day of the heat wave with pleasant temperatures. We met on the patio of the Community Center after we had righted a few tables, chairs, and umbrellas. The storm the night before had done considerable rearranging of the patio and pool deck. There were two umbrellas and one sign in the pool. The group enjoyed the fine weather and equally fine vittles.
Our tour of the Fox with a performance by Stan Kann is still on for August 23rd, report next month. The joint pot luck dinner with the Garden Club is now scheduled for 6:00pm on September 20th and as usual if you haven’t signed up it’s no problem. Call Margie Keith with your contribution, or just show up - should be plenty of food for everyone. Featured speaker for the evening will be our own Rein Poppitz, topic not disclosed to this reporter but it
should be enlightening.
Then it’s off for a tour of Busch Stadium on September 26th. We’ll meet at the Community Center at 9:30 with lunch destination unknown at this time.
October 24th will be an exciting tour of the Metrolink light rail including the public art at the new stations on the Crestwood line. We’ll meet at 10:30 with an early stop at Union Station for lunch, then on to the rest of the system. All of the buses now connect to Metrolink so it is possible to get anywhere with a transfer from the rail line. We’ll get all this information plus a great view of the city on this outing. Be sure to come to the Pot Luck so you can sign for this adventure.
Before you know where the year went it’s time for the holiday program at the Sheldon, the Robinwood Holiday party and other adventures of your own Silver Robins.
‘Till then I’ll see you around the neighborhood.
